Failsafe

Engines blaring

Outside my window

I just want to be

Far away someplace you know

I wanna be a nobody

So I can’t get hurt again

Or shot down and killed

In broad daylight like other men

Or stepped on and humiliated

Like everyone in this town

Let me be your failsafe

Come love this insufferable little frown

Hummingbirds fluttering

Outside my window

I kiss you gently

And you push me away screaming no

I wanna be a nobody

A non-existent number

Asleep in your bearish arms

Don’t wake me from my deep slumber.
