“Call Waiting”

Dad,
I tried to call you last night
Did you hear the phone ring?
I just wanted to hear your voice
Were you listening?
Dad,
I was waiting for you
To give me that phone call
To tell me all about
your latest great big fall…
But the call never came
And I waited and cried
and waited some more
until my cell phone died.
Dad,
I tried to call you last night
I had a lot to say
Did you hear me?
Or have you simply faded away?
Dad,
I was waiting for you
To call me and ask for the wifi password
You did that every Monday
I know that sounds absurd
But the call never came
And I waited and cried
and waited some more
until my cell phone died…
Dad,
I tried to call
middle of last week
And all I got was a tear
Running down my cheek…
Where’d you go, Dad?
Where’d you go?
I love you,
I love you so!
