6.19.17 City Sleeps & Sidewalk Sweeps (Poem)

City Sleeps & Sidewalk Sweeps

By Brian Bolding

As the night comes to a close

A lone black man reads his prose

Standing on a stage in an empty bar

Singing to the passing of a car

The whistling winds skirt past

The daylight never lasts

A couple fights 14 stories up

A drunk man kicks a plastic cup

Swooshing and swaying

The dying and the praying

Reverberating down central avenue

A ghost appears without a clue.
