6.29.19 California Dreamin’. (Journal)

As I sit here at work sipping my Lemon Lift Bigelow hot tea (just because I’m out of office coffee), I’m reminded how awesome the past month has been. Finally! A good month!

For starters, I just returned from visiting my big sis Nickie and my niece Daisy out in San Clemente, California. We had a fantastic time, and it was so great to go on an actual vacation to a place I hadn’t been to in awhile. I hadn’t seen my niece in over two years, specifically, because I had been visiting my parents on most of my vacation time the past two years due to Dad’s illnesses (Alzheimers, COPD, age, etc.) Since he has slightly stabalized health-wise the past year, I was so thankful to be able to visit my Cali family and friends again.

I visited for about 5 days, and my Sister, Niece and I had some fun times… Lake Arrowhead village (breakthtaking!), Griffith Observatory (stellar!) and a few other jaunts such as Mission San Juan Capistrano and some beach time, of course. I really can’t stress how gorgeous Lake Arrowhead Village is, and the surrounding area. What I would give to just live up there and write all day in that amazing little paradise up above the clouds. (We even did a boat tour of the island, and got in a spot of shopping, too. Who knew there was a Coach clearance outlet up in the mountains?) My soul really needed that trip. Unfortuntaely, one side effect of the trip is that I came home feeling I’d gained weight. Urgh.

So yeah, back on the exercise and diet routine again… Wish me luck! I think I may have gained like 7-8 pounds at the most, but I can feel every pound. When I look in the mirror, I still don’t like what I see, but I also still very much enjoy junk food whenever I can. Going to have to change some of my eating habits, which I began on Monday earlier this week. Cutting out extra sweets at night and trying to make better food choices, which is really difficult for a kid who was raised on Pizza, Burgers and Fries his whole life.

Other trips to look forward to… My nephew Damian’s birthday on July 27th. I’ll be heading back home to DFW for that one. And then my cousin Jennifer’s wedding on Oct 12th, followed by my graduation ceremony five days later in Phoenix. (Plus, 20+ on the road with my parents… heaven help me!) My vacations are pretty much planned out, which means I have to make the most of my weekends this Summer. I plan on taking some extended weekends here and there, and the first is next weekend (4th of July weekend.)

More to come…
