7.1.18 Summer’s Started (Journal)

Life carries on… like an endless tidal wave of boredom, loving moments with my boyfriend (too few and far between for my liking), the suffocating engulfing news with which I choose to stay close in contact with these days (Trump this, Trump that), and the steady drum of homework due each week in my online school, and, last but not least, checking on family now and then with my father’s Alzheimer’s and other health issues.

Still pretty excited about the trip back home for my nephew Damian’s birthday party at the end of July, and my sister and I have another trip planned before that, as well.. Two weeks ago, we booked tickets to Cabo San Lucas together. (Keep in mind, this is also a pretty big deal for me since I’ve NEVER left the U.S. mainland, if you don’t count the trip to St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands two Summers ago with my cousin Jen. to hang with my cousin Shay who lived out there.) Sure, it’s off season, and may be humid and stormy at times, but it’s still Summer, nonetheless, and we’re super excited about going on another sibling trip to also celebrate her 34th birthday. We’ll be down there for 5 days and 4 nights, and I’m taking lots of photos, to be sure, so expect to see them here. I’ve also been toying around with the idea of doing a little “travel blog.” I’ve always wanted to write up one. Perhaps… one about ways to travel on the cheap in a highly touristy area. Yeah, that should be doable. If there are any thrifty ways to spend the Summer in Cabo, I’m sure I’ll found out what those are. I always amaze myself at my common sense whilst traveling – how to space out meals, where to get good bargains, where the locals eat on the cheap (if at all), etc. One thing that I see as a barrier is my lack of Spanish. I know “sporadic Spanish,” as I like to call it. That is, I know how to tell the time.. if it’s 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, and so on… and I know how to say good morning and good afternoon. And I can pick out random words here and there if the person speaking Spanish isn’t talking too fast, which is almost always for me. I’m going to take a couple of weeks’ worth of Duolingo Spanish classes before I go, as well as diet a little bit more, so that should help on those fronts.

The past 2 months, I’ve also been afflicted with a bizarre series of ailments. (Suddenly turned 43 and began falling apart. That’s what it feels like from my point of view, anyways.) In March, I came down with a severe throat infection.. took lots of anti-biotics and meds to get rid of that. Then, suddenly, I became afflicted with ‘diverticulitis,’ as I came to understand it.. which took up about a month in and out of the hospital and such. Then, because of the other meds they lopped on to my system to fight all these things off, I feel that’s what contributed to my third big illness of the year (which shall remain nameless, because its so damn embarrassing. Just think.. ‘bathroom problems.’) I’ve had those the past 2 months. Feeling like I just can’t get out of the woods with all these illnesses, and I really want to be 110% by the time I leave for Mexico with Sis, so… gonna try real hard to feel normal. Finally.

Other than that, life continues. I’m so tired  of school and work, and just need to get away. This should be the perfect Summer to do just that. Wish me luck.
